Earlier Days >

Allah Rakha Rahman was actually born as A.S.Dileep Kumar on the 6th of January 1966. He was born to a Tamil affluent Mudaliar family and his father R.K.Sekar was a composer cum arranger for Malayalam movies.

Dileep's baptism towards music took root at a premature age of 4 and he still remembers his old days at the studio where his father used to work.Dileep once was noticed playing the tune composed by his father in Harmonium by a famous Music Director Sudarshanam Master. He went to Dileep and covered the keys of Harmonium with a piece of cloth and asked him to move away. But astonishingly Dileep was able to repeat the same tune with the cloth on the keys effortlessly. This impressed Sudarshanam Master who apporoached R.K.Sekar and suggested him to train Dileep in music.

Dileep's early stage of Classical Music was from Dhanraj Master. But at that point of time Music was just a means for earning Bread & Butter for Dileep.A fascination on Music to Dileep came to him as a forbidden toy [As described by Ji even now] of a Systhesiser. Dileep's curiosity made him spend hours experimenting the Synth and it caught his fancy.

Dileep's teenage was not easy as of others. At his age of 11, R.K Sekar passed away following a mysterious illnes with roumers abounding that he became a victim of Black Magic by his rivals in the industry. This was the time when his belief on GOD took a beating. Rahman outrightly refuses to speak about this even today.

It was this time which Rahman could not forget when the whole burden of his family management fell on the poor 12yr old kid.

To be continued . . .
